Pharmacists in British Columbia can now assess and prescribe for a wide range of minor ailments and contraception—making care faster, easier, and more accessible than ever. With enhanced training and regulatory support, your pharmacist is ready to help you feel better, sooner.
Whether you’re managing a common condition like allergies or a UTI, or seeking guidance on contraception, you can count on safe, professional support—right when you need it.
Minor Ailments
As of June 1, 2023, pharmacists in British Columbia have expanded authority to assess and prescribe medications for certain minor ailments and contraception.
This enhancement in pharmacy services offers several benefits to patients:
Improved Access to Care
Patients can receive timely treatment for common conditions directly from their pharmacist, reducing the need for separate doctor visits.
Enhanced Convenience
By enabling pharmacists to prescribe for these conditions, patients experience more streamlined care, particularly beneficial for those in rural or remote areas where access to primary care providers may be limited.
Professional Assurance
Pharmacists prescribing under this program have completed a mandatory Regulatory Education Module, ensuring they are well-equipped to provide safe and effective care within the established guidelines.
This initiative reflects a commitment to expanding the role of pharmacists in the healthcare system, aiming to improve patient outcomes through accessible and efficient care.
